FOIL Clinic at Enough Is Enough

Come to the second half of Enough Is Enough's meeting for a FOIL Clinic presented by Ted Forsyth. After a brief introduction to New York State (NYS) Freedom Of Information Law (FOIL), we'll actually fill out and submit FOIL requests! What is FOIL? FOIL is the law that allows members of the public to access records of governmental agencies. So bring your questions for your favorite government agency! (They don't have to be about police!)

April 24, 2018
8:00pm - 9:00pm
Flying Squirrel Community Space
285 Clarissa St.
Rochester, NY
Suggested Donation: $5 (no one turned away)

And please come for Enough Is Enough's condensed meeting from 7:00pm - 8:00pm.

Every New York State or municipal department, board, bureau, division, commission, committee, public authority, public corporation, council, office or other governmental entity performing a governmental or proprietary function is subject to FOIL. Each of those governmental entities is an “agency.”

For this clinic, we'll be looking at NYS and specifically we'll focus on:
-A brief history of FOIL in NYS
-The law as its written
-50-a
-the general process

Then, we'll actually fill out FOILs, and submit them! So bring your ideas and questions of governmental agencies in NYS!

Next month we'll come back together to see who got responses and what to do then based on those responses!

Please join us!

PS. If you have a laptop or phone, please bring it. Sometimes agencies have online forms. In other instances, you may have to write or print out a letter and send it to the agency.
