Being in jail is an oppressive, dehumanizing experience, and the systems it upholds may at times appear entrenched and immovable.
What if there were ways to collectively fight back against racist, dehumanizing incarceration? What if demystifying the legal system could help arrestees mitigate the harm of jail or help defendants bring their struggles for social change into the courtroom? Is it possible that collective legal strategies could actually advance our social movements?
Join for a discussion with Kris Hermes on radical approaches to pushing back against the legal system, using mutual aid and collective action that build our power both in and outside of the courtroom.
Hermes is a longtime activist, current mass defense coordinator with the National Lawyers Guild, and author of “Crashing the Party: Legacies and Lessons from the RNC 2000” (PM Press).
